Vaigai Dam (69 km)

Man-made gardens filled with all kinds of exotic flowers and plants on one ' side of the dam, compete with the rugged natural beauty of the hills that borders the river on the other side. On Sundays, the dam site is illuminated and looks beautiful. Longer trips may also be made from Madurai to Kumbakkarai Waterfalls . (85 km), Suruli Waterfalls (130 km) and Thiruppulani (120 km).

This is a good picnic spot. The dam is beautifully illuminated on Sundays. Regular buses are available from Madurai. The Dam is 4 miles from Aundipatti railway station on the Madurai Bodinayakanur railway line.
