Krishna is the eighth incarnation of Vishnu. There are many stories of Krishna in his childhood days, such as Kaliya Mardhana and the lifting of Govardhana. He was born on earth to rid the world of evil people, like Kamsa, Shishupala, Jarasandha, the Kauravas, and many others who threatened the existence of Dharma and righteousness. He was the one who told the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna, in the great Kurukshetra War. What he said about Karma and Dharma is what a person should follow.
